I’ve been a frequent visitor to Bangalore over the last decade since my parents decided to retire there. While the gorgeous weather and the crazy traffi c is what everyone talks about (specially these days, as the city metro construction barricades are all over the place), Bangalore also has a very attractive and charming persona that’s a delightfully well-kept secret. While it has all the accoutrements of being a big city—with a dynamic buzz, a vibrant culinary scene, the distinction of being a techie town—it also has a small-town vibe that harks back to its British cantonment days, where people drop in unannounced for a cup of tea; huge raintrees and lush green gardens; and a certain feeling in the air that allows its inhabitants the freedom to think and live with the idea of possibility. We could fi nd no one better than Bangalore insider and frequent T+L contributor Roopa Pai (she has lived and worked all over the world only to come back!) to unveil this hidden side of the city in our T+L Decoder this month. Find out more about this city of dog lovers and beer afi cionados, and much more on page 102.Last month, we announced the winners of the second edition of the India’s Best Awards. There’s something special about awards. Every industry has its own benchmarks and accolades, but in the travel industry where the guest or customer is always considered to be all-important, an acknowledgement from the consumers (in this case, all you readers!) is extra special. That’s why we take so much pride in presenting the winners on page 97. All of you voted for your favourites across more than 50 categories and many winners have won for the second year in a row. Thailand, Singapore, Delhi, Goa and Rajasthan among others take the top spot in many categories! While noteworthy newcomers include Indian states like Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh and hotels like The Oberoi, Gurgaon and the Grand Hyatt Dubai. In our annual Spa Special we review the best new spas in India; get the experts to share their special picks; share some just-launched (and sometimes, even bizarre) treatments that are making news; and give you a roundup of what’s new in wellness. Turn to page 31. Enjoy your summer travels and the issue!
