The Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Wildlife Trust of India (WTI), is hosting the (first) ever International Elephant Congress and Ministerial Meet (E- 50:50) in New Delhi from November 14-19, 2013. This issue of Sanctuary Asia has been especially put together to commemorate the Congress and to underscore the need to protect elephants.

Sanctuary Asia, India's leading wildlife, conservation and environment magazine, was started by Editor Bittu Sahgal in 1981 to raise awareness among Indians of their disappearing natural heritage. Sanctuary is at the fulcrum of several wildlife conservation campaigns and serves as a network for wildlife groups, concerned individuals and non-profit organisations. It is also a source of information for press and television reporters. Our focus is the Indian subcontinent and Asia, but our horizon spans the globe.
