Talking of “change”, today’s Sindhis tend to be doing so many new things. For this Diwali issue we had the pleasure of interacting with the Thakur family, specifically more so with 38-year-old Hasmukh, who is motivated and driven by ambition to be the best in his field, and is the face of the real estate company Monarch Universal. We spoke with his equally go-getting dynamic younger brother Gopal as well. 70-year-old exporter Mona Lalwani astonished us with her boundless energy, comparable to that of a 50-year-old, and her business acumen as she narrated the story of her work, her life, and her two daughters Renuka Advani and Sharmila Thapar, who happily merged their talents into the work arena with her. Author of the recently released book “Bombay Girl”, Kavita Daswani, an Indian-American Sindhi from a suburb of Los Angeles allowed us a peek into her personal and professional life. It was like an “off the shelf” best-seller! Champ Alreja (unique first name) told us of how he converted his passion for gadgets into a successful web based enterprise. Family physician and Medical Nutritionist Dr Vishakha Shivdasani generously shared with us her knowledge of how to eat right and stay healthy. Besides these, we stumbled upon a bunch of, six to be precise, diversely adventurous young entrepreneurs between the ages of 20-25, going out there and proving their mettle. Anushka Parwani - Yoga enthusiast and teacher. Hitesh Mulani - a passionate photographer and an aspiring filmmaker. Jai Ranjit - an astute artist. Lakhan Jethani - ace molecular mixologist and restaurateur. Maiti Shahani and her love for all things floral. Yogesh Dhanjani - one of the youngest professors in Mumbai and his love for the divine arts. They get me wondering - these “just out of college” kind of strivers!
