Children are innocent, children are mischievous, and bring a smile to one’s face. Children are treasured and loved by one and all. Amongst other things, they teach us a lot—to smile for the smallest thing, be patient, to let go and not hold grudges, and how to make the most of the day.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, born on November 14, and after whom Children’s Day is celebrated in India, once said, "Children are like buds in a garden and should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they are the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow". Chacha Nehru, as he was fondly called, was known for revolutionising the Indian education system. This week, we move from the academic curriculum and focus on the extracurricular activities available for the children of today to grow and learn.
Rekha Reddy, the first Master of Ohara Ikebana, is the foremost name that comes to mind when you think of Ikebana in Hyderabad. She’s been practicing the art of flower arrangement for the last 30 years and has been the President of both the Ikebana International Hyderabad Chapter and the Hyderabad Ohara Chapter in the past. Currently, Rekha teaches children the Japanese art form, and every year she hosts an exhibition of Ikebana for children on Children’s Day. With a keen interest in early childhood education for many years, the couple ventured into the field and started The Creative Learning Centre for
one-on-one training for children and Toddler Den, a playschool that allows parents to attend the classes along with their little ones.
In Grand Getaways we have Dr Chandrashekar D.P. of JGI Schools taking us through his journey to the Everest Base Camp along with his students. Inspired by the country’s youngest mountaineer, Jaahnavi Sriperambuduru, and her passion to conquer the world, Dr Chandrashekar decided to take some selected students from the school to experience this adventure.
