The cover story for the November issue focussed on ‘Good Monsoon: A Mixed Blessing’, where we looked at how the copious monsoon has turned out to be a boon for hydro and wind power segments, while it was a bane for coal-based power and solar plants. On the renewable side, we analysed what ails the hydro power sector, which despite once being at the forefront of power generation in India, lags behind today. We also look at possible solutions to restore its former glory. Our feature on LED looked at how the LED lighting business is growing significantly and is expected to reach $1.3 billion by 2018, capturing over 50 per cent of the lighting industry; while the one on Gas Turbines & Engines found that gas turbines could be the technology of choice for the future as the laws on emission standards get tougher by the day.
