The EC has already announced that elderly voters above the age of 85 and disabled voters with more than 40% disability can be able to vote from home through a new mobile application. The aim is to encourage young voters and first time voters to vote. Besides, they have been assured of benefits. DC Amritsar Ghanshyam Thori, who is also the District Electoral Officer, launched several mobile apps related to the upcoming LS elections. In the same series, hundreds of students and teachers of different educational institutions of the district on Wednesday used Voter Helpline App, C-Vigil App, KYC on their mobile phones in the run-up to the LS polls. They were informed about how to download these applications, including the Saksham App, specifically deisgned for PwD voters. Amritsar, March 27 A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team along with the city police launched a manhunt to arrest Harpreet Singh, brother of international drug smuggler Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa, whose associates were arrested by the city police with 4 kg heroin and Rs 3 lakh of drug money yesterday. Harpreet Singh was also wanted by the NIA in connection with the infamous drug haul of 532 kg from the integrated check-post at Attari in 2019. Gopa’s father Jasbir Singh was also booked in the case of seizure by the NIA and was currently out on bail while Harpreet had been evading arrest for the past four years. This was announced by Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori during a video conference with the Punjab Chief Secretary. Officials of the Mandi Board, the District Food and Civil Supply Controller, representatives of procurement agencies and other departments were present in the conference. He said all arrangements have been completed and farmers will not face any difficulty during the season. According to the instructions of the government, the procurement of wheat will start from April 1 which will last till May 31. He said the procurement price of wheat has been fixed at ~2,275 per quintal.
