The present paper aims at understanding co-morbidity of mental and medical disorders which is a central task in assessing and treating psychological problems in older adults ranging from anxiety disorders, acute state of confusion, mood disorder, sleep disorders to somatoform disorders. Knowledge of the unique problems of late life and of the needed adaptation of psychological interventions for older adults will maximise the effectiveness of those still working in various organisations and we Psychologists need to address these issues and focus on solutions. The range of care provision includes medical specialisation like geriatrics, psycho-geriatrics refers to old-age psychiatry, local and state health services, general practice, community hospitals, voluntary societies, private care, etc. Training is given on reality orientation for confused patients; validation therapy; psychotherapy or counseling; life review; improving intellectual functioning; coping with anxiety and depression; reducing somatic preoccupation; rehabilitation; behavioural deficit and excesses. Consultation and teamwork is required. The greatest need is to master specialised assessment and treatment approaches. Along with the older adult’s need for individual attention, families and care givers often need help in understanding and coping with the cognitive factors and behavioural problems that accompany it.
