People face positive and negative events over the course of their lives.
Both can influence their lives accordingly, depending on how an individual
adjusts to these situations. To overcome negative events, one can use
positive emotions as a way of buffering the negative effects of daily hassles.
In the present investigation a sample of 30 respondents, dividend into
three groups were taken. Group I counted their blessings weekly; Group II
counted their daily hassles, while Group III comprised the control group
participants. Before the investigation started, General Health Questionnaire
was administered to all the participants, which measures four aspects of
health, viz., somatic symptoms, anxietyinsomnia, social dysfunction and
severe depression. The participants were randomly assigned to the three
groups. After four weeks, General Health Questionnaire was re-administered.
Pre- and post-treatment results were analysed to compare the effects of
positive versus negative emotions on health.
