The study purported to examine the relationship of certain positive
personality attributes and behavioural tendencies, such as emotional stability
and behavioral tendencies, relaxed-tense temperament, optimism and
resilience, positive affectivity and spirituality with health status and recovery
from illness in a sample of 58 male and female adults selected from urban
population. The statistical analysis of the data obtained through
psychometric tools revealed that all positive attributes excepting relaxed
temperament, significantly negatively correlated with symptoms of ill-health.
Optimism and resilience were found to be most dominant predictors of
health status. Speed of recovery from illness was also found to be facilitated
by positive affectivity, spirituality and optimism and resilience.
