About this issue

It was 1 April, 1957, and the BBC, a popular news channel, was doing an exclusive report on the Swiss Spaghetti Harvest. As some of you might know, spaghetti is long noodle-like pasta. The BBC claimed that the Swiss had found a way to grow spaghetti on trees. In a three minute video narrated by one of BBC’s most respected broadcasters, they showed a Swiss family picking spaghetti from trees and collecting it in a basket. You won’t believe what happened next! The BBC was flooded with enquiries from viewers on how they could grow spaghetti in their gardens! Sounds stupid, right? But the BBC managed to get hundreds of British people April fooled! Many years later, in 1996, it was widely reported that anyone connected to the World Wide Web must shut down their computers for an Internet Cleaning Day, where ‘flotsam and jetsam’ would be removed from their systems. Guess what day that was? 1 April, of course! Not to be left behind, Tinkle Digest is also doing its ultimate April fools’ issue! I can hardly wait for you to enjoy the pranks, gags, antics and monkeyshines we’ve put together this month. I don’t want to give away any surprises, but all I can say is that your favourite characters—Kalia, Tantri, Suppandi and the rest, are in for some great April fools’ adventures. I’m sure you’ll want to go along! Don’t forget to take a look at our April fools’ specials—‘Nonsense Poems’ and ‘April Fish’!If that’s not enough, we also have a range of interesting features for you. Professor Pushkar teaches us a coin trick which I’m sure will impress your friends and family. ‘Travel Tales’ takes us to the deepest place on Earth. We speak to our friends from Delhi about winning the Little Director award at the 18th International Children's Film Festival, in ‘I-C-C Champs!’ And the ‘Explorer’ takes us on a visit to Mali, in West Africa, to see how mud cloth is made.Congratulations to our reader, Namita Kaushik, on her well-written contribution, ‘Twinkle Toes Grandma’. We had a great time reading and scripting it! We hope that more of you will send us your wonderful stories.Have a laugh-out-loud April,
