देश के सबसे बड़े प्रदेश उत्तर प्रदेश में 18,382 डाक्टरों के पद हैं, जिनमें 11,034 पद ही भरे हैं। कुल 7348 डाक्टरों के पद खाली हैं। विभाग सभी ब्लाक मुख्यालयों पर विशेषज्ञ डाक्टरों की सेवायें देने का वायदा करता है लेकिन मौके पर हालात यह है कि मात्र बीस प्रतिशत डाक्टर ही उपलब्ध हैं और उनमें से अधिकांश मरीजों को देखने के बजाय निदेशालय में फाइलें निपटा रहे हैं।
