Titled ‘Responsible Flamboyance’, the September 2019 issue of Apparel was predominantly focused on sustainability, what with stories that speak to the reader of organic materials, reviving age-old Indian textiles, empowering textile artisans, and more.

Under the ‘Report’ section, we write about all that went on at the 63rd India International Garment Fair. Another article talks about the 22nd meeting of CMAI’s IVY League, and the third piece under the section elaborates on the unveiling of Project SU.RE (Sustainable Revolution), launched by the Union Minister of Textiles Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, and collectively helmed by CMAI and IMG Reliance.

The ‘Feature’ section carries stories centred on clothing trends this Autumn Winter season, developments in the sustainable fashion arena the world over, and the concept of mini stores that is proving to be fruitful in garment retail today. The ‘Fabric Speak’ section highlights the unpretentious magnificence of Mangalagiri fabrics, while Gauri Kumar, who heads a label specialising in handlooms, steals the ‘Designer Spotlight’ this month. ‘Entrepreneur Speak’ details Purple Style Labs’ acquisition of Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop. ‘Brand Profile’ features a kids’ wear brand Veronna, which offers a fresh take on kids’ clothing. In the ‘Unique Initiative’ section, we shine the spotlight on Dr Hemalatha Jain, a textile revivalist who has breathed new life into saris from the North Karnataka belt. Under ‘Industry Insights’, we take a look at how the current scenario of the country’s apparel retail and the journey of khadi, its present success and what lies ahead for it. ‘Fashion Speak’ lists out details on all the exciting designers and designer collections that were witnessed at Lakmé Fashion Week’s Winter Festive 2019 edit.
