Corporate head honchos are known for their jet-setting lifestyles and business commitments, with very little time to spare for leisurely pursuits. Gautam Singhania, the chairman and managing director of Raymond Ltd, whom we have featured on our cover this issue, however, is an exception. Singhania’s passion for supercars and motorsports has earned him international fame and he is known as much for his competence on the racing circuit as in the boardroom.

We are also covering legendary Mr. Pradeep Gupta, the co-founder and vice-chairman of the Mumbai-based leading financial services firm Anand Rathi Group. An aspect of business that Marwari’s uncanny aptitude for managing finances.

We also bring the story of Mr. Atul Jalan, founder-CEO of Manthan. As a successful business community, Marwaris are also known for their ability to spot business opportunities and exploit them. Atul Jalan, who feels data and analytics would be the next big thing after digital transformation, counts among them.

Bala Sarda, the founder of Vahdam Teas. By leveraging technology and eliminating unnecessary middlemen, Vahdam Teas has revolutionized the 200-year old traditional supply chain of tea in India.

Philanthropy, an integral part of the Marwari ethos, has been a tradition among Marwari industrialists and entrepreneurs and continues to be. But few perhaps match pioneering industrialist Govidram Seksaria’s generosity and lifelong commitment to philanthropy. We bring you the many institutions he founded through generous donations, in a special supplement.

In our times, an outstanding example of Marwari philanthropy is presented in Ahmedabad-based Piramal Sarvajal’s endeavours to bring safe drinking water to countless citizens. A part of Piramal Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Mumbai-based Piramal Group, the mission-driven social enterprise’s commitment to leverage technology and bring community-level safe drinking water to underserved and arid areas is laudatory, to say the least.

Marwar is a community-based magazine with an emphasis on profiling the best and the brightest in the Marwari community. The magazine reaches the elite in India and abroad who want to read and discover the wonders of all things connected with the community. Thus, the subjects featured have to have the flavour of Marwar and Rajasthan—its culture, lifestyle and traditions. We highlight arts, crafts, music, dance and theatre as well as fashion and food that are connected to the region apart from immensely successful businessmen and businesswomen. In the past, luminaries like Laxmi Mittal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Indu Jain, Sanjiv Goenka and Rajashree Birla, to name a few, have graced our cover.
