Dear Readers,

Both trendy and traditional – the saree has been around for over 2,000 years, since the Indus Valley civilization. From what it was then – a three-piece ensemble consisting of a lower garment, veil, and chest band – the saree has certainly come a long way. Not only in terms of the make and material, but also the varied styles of draping that continue to evolve. Indian women living in the country and abroad wear the saree with utmost confidence and finesse. It is a timeless garment that makes for a stunning outfit for almost every occasion. This week, we’ve picked out some of the most popular handlooms of Indian sarees and some of the unique draping styles that are sure to appeal to every woman. Take a look at our Feature Story for more.

On the cover, looking absolutely stunning, are four beautiful and elegant women, each of who are connoisseurs of sarees and have a fabulous personal collection of them. IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, image consultant Priya Rajiv, interior designer Padma Somireddy, and holistic nutritionist Sridevi Jasti have come together to speak about their love for sarees, in Cover Story.

The festival of Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is the culmination of nine days of Navratri, and is also a celebration of

Lord Ram’s victory over Ravana. It is the triumph of good over evil and we Indians celebrate it with much fervour across the country and in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, too. While the way this festival is celebrated may differ across India, the significance remains the same. In the Special Feature we take a look at the various forms of celebration for this festival.

A passionate entrepreneur in the fashion field, Shailaja Chintakindi runs a four-decade-old family run business of textiles, and is herself is a saree aficionado. In People she tells us about how she deals with competition in her business and much more.

We also have Tania Shah, a young professional in the field of advertising, recall her recent trip to Vietnam and Thailand, in

Grand Getaways. She tells us all about the delicious food she relished in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi and the tourist spots she visited in Bangkok. Check it out!

And tell us what you think. If you have any suggestions, comments or queries, please e-mail me at publisher@you-and-i.com.
