"In our discussion, we asked him to uphold the Constitution which is the paramount responsibility of his office. He should withhold his assent to the legislation," Viegas said. PWD Chief Engineer Subhash Belgaonkar recently directed Executive Engineers from Panaji, Margao, Mapusa, Bicholim, Ponda and Fatorda divisions to carry out urgent pothole repairs on top priority. He also made it clear that complaints uploaded on the PWD mobile app must be addressed before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. “The focus is to make the roads motorable at the earli- est standards that meet the expectations of theatre artistes and audiences alike, the General Council of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao has constituted a Supervising Committee. The committee will be chaired by noted film and theatre artiste Vijay Kenkre, who also heads the Task Force. The move follows a series of directions from the High Court of Bombay at Goa, which in 1996 had declared bullfights to be in violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and therefore illegal. The court had also directed authorities to take immediate steps to ban all forms of animal fights.
