Earlier, in a joint operation, the BSF and the Punjab Police personnel recovered a China-made drone from the border area village on Wednesday. The packet containing heroin was wrapped in a yellow colour adhesive tape. The drug was recovered from a field near Noorwala village in Tarn Taran district. One China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone was recovered from a field adjacent to Khemkaran village in Tarn Taran district. The spokesperson said after a preliminary inquiry, a VB team laid a trap and caught the patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Suspect in custody of the Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar on Thursday. During the meeting, MC Commissioner Harpreet Singh reviewed the project and instructed representatives of Larsen & Toubro to increase workforce and machinery to speed up the project work. The meeting was attended by L&T representatives, and civic body and independent verification agency officials appointed for the project. While reviewing the work, Harpreet Singh instructed the company to increase the workforce and deploy more construction machinery and other necessary resources so that the project work could be completed on time. He said while carrying out any construction work in the city, the company should take full care of the safety and convenience of the public. He said, “While doing any construction work or laying pipelines, complete barricading should be done in the sur- rounding areas for the public safety. The road repair work should be started only after planning a route for diversion of vehicles so that commuters don’t face traffic snarls.” He instructed the independent verification agency to closely scrutinise the work done by the company and ensure that the quality standards were strictly maintained. He told MC officials to coordinate with other departments to get the required NOCs for the project. The Punjab Municipal Services Improvement Project is being run by the MC with the help of the World Bank. In the coming days, the water of Upper Bari Doab Canal would be cleaned and supplied to every household in the city under the project. A 40.40 crore litres modern water treatment plant would be constructed at Vallah under the project. At least 51 new overhead water tanks would also be constructed and a 118 km-long supply pipeline would be laid in the city. — TNS Amritsar , April 25 Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Arshdeep Singh Lubana while inspecting vehicles with his team today issued 12 challans to school vehicles found violating guidelines of the Safe School Vahan policy. Officials of the RTA, District Child Protection Unit and the traffic police have been inspecting school vehicles ferrying students of private schools since last week after an accident in Mahendragarh in which seven children lost their lives. Arshdeep Singh said compliance of the Safe School Vahan Policy would be ensured in the district. No negligence would be tolerated to protect the life of schoolchildren. He said principals should pay personal attention to school vehicles. Amritsar, April 25 Divyamsh, a student of DAV Public School, has topped the district by getting 99.96 percentile in JEE Main session 2, the results of which were declared yesterday. He bagged an All India Rank of 613 in JEE Main, 2024. At least 14.76 lakh students appeared in the exam across the country. Earlier, Divyamsh had topped the district in the JEE Main session I by scoring 99.97 percentile. Coming a close second in district is Raghav Vohra, a student of Bhavans SL School, with a score of 99.91 percentile. Another Bhavans student, Kyan Mahajan scored 99.71 percentile in the exam. Divyamsh aspires to become an entrepreneur and run a start up in the field of AI and digital space. In all, 12 students in the district have secured above 99 percentile in JEE Main session 2. — TNS Accidental fire burns standing wheat crop, stubble on 25 acres Amritsar, April 25 Standing wheat crop and stubble on at least 25 acres was burnt allegedly due to a short circuit in electricity wires near Naushera village on the outskirts of the city here on Thursday. Residents said the fire started around 1:30 pm and spread to dry wheat fields quickly. Residents alleged that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) did not take proper measures to tighten the loose electricity wires. While demanding compensation for the crop loss, farmers said the government should fix responsibility of the PSPCL so that such accidents could be prevented in the future.
