Aman Kumar Garg, a resident of Nayagaon, reported that his father was hit by an autorickshaw at the milk colony, Dhanas. He was injured in the accident and rushed to the PGI where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. A case has been registered against the auto driver, identified as Nand Kishore, at the Sarangpur police station. He was arrested and later released on bail. The constable has been identified as Anoop, who is posted at the Sector 19 police station and at present deputed on election duty in Gujarat. Sources said the complainant, Lalta Yadav, had alleged that the constable had thrashed him at a hotel in Kajheri, Sector 52. In his complaint lodged with the police, Lalta Yadav had stated that he had borrowed money from the constable during pandemic. The city will go to the polls on June 1 and development works will be started again on the completion of the election process on June 6. As no new work could be undertaken during the model code of conduct period, the UT Administration has started working on the action plan for the next 100 days, said sources. The Adviser has started holding meetings with the heads of the various departments to discuss about what works the department concerned could do in the next 100 days, besides clearing all pending works. Voting in Chandigarh will be held in the last phase on June 1. Chandigarh, April 29 With four-time Congress MP Pawan Kumar Bansal and several leaders, including three councillors, owing allegiance to him not joining in the ongoing campaigning of party candidate Manish Tewari, these disgruntled party men are going to hold a meeting tomorrow to decide the future course of action. Sources said they might demand the appointment of a working president. Bansal’s supporters had earlier sought the removal of city party president HS Lucky. “Since the candidate has been announced and the election to the city LS seat is drawing near, it will not be possible to remove the president. But, a working president can be appointed,” said a leader close to Bansal. These leaders may take a call on whether to resign from the party posts or not. Councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi, who is leading the group, Manish Tewari with councillors Prem Lata and Jasbir Singh Bunty at a political event in Chandigarh on Monday. said, “A unanimous decision will be taken by the leaders tomorrow. Later, the outcome of the decision will be conveyed to national party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Other than me, councillors Sachin Galav and Nirmala Devi, along with several office-bearers, will attend the meeting regarding the current election situation in Chandigarh.” All these leaders are close to the former Union minister. According to Gabi, other than four councillors, Congress vicepresident, general secretary, secretary, Youth Congress vicepresident, general secretary, secretary, district head, ward head and the NSUI president will attend the meeting. Tewari was named the Congress candidate for Chandigarh about two weeks and Bansal and his aides have been keeping a distance from the campaigning since then. Some of the office-bearers even resigned from their posts. Taking a tough stance, the party even relieved Congress Mahila president Deepa Dubey. In some relief to the city Congress, Jasbir Singh Bunty, who was earlier supposed to be part of the meeting scheduled for tomorrow, held a public event in support of Tewari today. The day temperature is expected to rise over the next few days. —TNS Chandigarh, April 29 The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here has given Rs 18,75,652 compensation to parents of a 20-yearold man who died in a road accident in 2022. Victim Santosh Kumar’s parents Dwarika Singh and Radhika Devi had filed a claim petition under the Motor Vehicle Act, seeking compensation from the driver and owner of a crane that was allegedly involved in the accident, and an insurance company. They said on December 13, 2022 Santosh was going from Haripur Hindua village to Bhagwanpur village riding a cycle. When he reached Bhagwanpur, a crane came from his behind and hit the cycle. As a result of the impact, Santosh fell down and was crushed by the rear wheel of the crane. The claimants said the victim was employed with a private company in Derabassi, and was earning Rs 15,000 per month. During hearings, the crane’s driver and owner claimed that a false FIR was lodged against them. After hearing arguments, the Tribunal directed the insurance company and other respondents to pay Rs 1875,652 to claimants. Besides, the tribunal said the claimants shall also be entitled to 7.50% interest per annum on the compensation amount from the date of application till its realisation.
