The deceased was identified as Mayank, a resident of Rewari. He was pursuing Computer Science (first year) from the LPU. Though he was living on the third floor of the hostel, he went to the 10th floor of an adjoining hostel to end his life. After getting information, Phagwara Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vatsala Gupta and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rupinder Kaur Bhatti rushed to the spot. The body of the deceased was sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Civil Surgeon Dr Lehmber Ram said a board of doctors conducted the autopsy. The body was later handed over to the family who reached here from Riwari in the wee hours today. — OC Residents to get water supply, sewerage bills through SMS Tribune News Service Amritsar, May 3 The municipal corporation will send water and sewer bills to residents through SMS. Earlier, printed bills were delivered through employees to residents. On many occasions, bills were not delivered on time. Now, the Department of Local Government, Punjab, has started its own portal titled — mSeva — for which residents would have to create their own ID with a registered mobile number to log in and make payment for services availed. At present, payments for services like e-naksha, property tax and applying for trade licence and fire NOCs is being accepted on the portal. Manfounddead;kinallegemurder, police say he was electrocuted Our Correspondent Tarn Taran, May 3 A man identified as Gurjit Singh (25), a resident of Baler village falling under Bhikhiwind police station, died under mysterious circumstances on Thursday. His body was recovered by the police from a village drain in the late hours on Thursday. His arms were tied behind the back. Surjit Singh, a cousin of the deceased, in his statement to the Bhikhiwind police, stated that he (Gurjit Singh) had gone to fields to give food to labourers working there and was murdered by suspects on the way. He alleged that Gurjit Singh was murdered by Arjun Singh and Jarman Singh, both brothers, with the help of five unknown persons. There was a serious tussle between the deceased and the suspects. The suspects have been booked under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the IPC by the Bhikhiwind police in this connection. Refuting the claim of Surjit Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashwani Kapur said Gurjit Singh was not murdered, but electrocuted. The SSP said there was no truth in the statement that his arms were tied behind the back. The SSP said the postmortem report was yet to be received by the police. He said further action would be initiated after receiving the report. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann welcomed the Akali leaders into the party fold at Chandigarh on Friday. The glut of wheat has created space shortage problem for unloading new crop arriving in mandis. Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar said 6,69,730 metric tonnes (MT) of wheat had arrived in mandis till May 2, out of which 6,54,020 MT was procured on the same day. The DC said 2,22,270 MT of the crop had been lifted from grain markets. He said procurement agencies had been instructed to give top priority to lift the crop. At a meeting of the executive committee of the Non-Govt Aided Colleges Management Federation (NGACMF) held here today, managements of colleges declared CAP started by , the Government of Punjab to regulate admissions in colleges of the state last year, a failed exercise. The participants at the meeting, chaired by federation president Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, were of the view that the portal led to a drastic fall in admissions in aided and self-financed colleges. However, the state government in an arbitrary manner started the said portal for colleges without going into its merits and consequences. Dr SP Singh said the Centralised Admission Portal had proved detrimental to interests of colleges and served the interest of private universities in the state. He also said that officials had backtracked from their promises to resolve various grievances of the federation.
