Petrol pump owner Dalip Kumar, a resident of Nurmahal, told the police that two unidentified motorcycleborne miscreants barging into the office and snatched ~45,500 from them at gunpoint before fleeing the spot. Nakodar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kulwinder Singh Virk said the police were investigating the matter. OC BIKER KILLED IN ROAD MISHAP Phagwara: The Mehat Pur police have arrested a school bus driver on the charge of killing a person. Investigating officer (IO) Davinder Singh said the suspect had been identified as Bhupinder Singh, alias Laadi, a resident of Beetal Jhugian village falling under the Mehat Pur police station. Jagir Singh, a resident of Tandaura village, told the police that the suspect was driving a school bus in a fast and negligent manner on May 6. The bus hit his cousin brother Baldev Singh’s motorcycle near the village. As a result, he died. A case under Sections 304-A, 279 and 427 of the IPC has been registered against the bus driver. The police also impounded the vehicle. Rohit Kumar, a pharmacist by profession with total assets of ~21,000, entered into election fray from Hoshiarpur. Most party candidates from Jalandhar are learnt to be preparing to file their papers on Friday. AAP candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu is expected to file his papers on May 13 and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to accompany him. OC PO LANDS IN POLICE NET TWO THIEVES ARRESTED Phagwara: The Rawalpindi police have arrested two thieves and recovered household goods stolen from a house in Panchatt village near Phagwara. Rawalpindi SHO Labh Singh said the suspects had been identified as Vikki and Harmanbir, residents of Khanorra village. The suspects were produced before a local judicial magistrate who sent them to two-day police remand. OC FIRE BREAKS OUT AT RICE SHELLER Phagwara: Thousands of empty bags were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire that broke out at a rice sheller at Rihana-Jattan village on Tuesday afternoon. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. Deepak Bansal, owner of Jai-Maa Agro, said empty bags that were kept for rice were destroyed in the fire. The loss is estimated to be in lakhs. However, the cause of fire could not be known yet. PHOTO: SARABJIT SINGH Pastor got money from Dubai, sent Indian SIMs to Pak handlers: Cops ESPIONAGE CHARGE Our Correspondent Hoshiarpur, May 7 The police today made new revelations in the case of Pastor Janson, who was caught spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency last week. Talking to mediapersons, SSP Surendra Lamba said during investigation, it came to light that the pastor, who was caught on charges of spying for Pakistan, was getting money through Dubai. During investigation, a transfer of ?1,00,000 in his account from Dubai had also come to light. The police were investigating his accounts and other transactions to find out from where else he had got the money and to whom he gave it. He said some objectionable documents had been recovered from the mobile phone seized from the accused. Along with this, intelligence information shared by him with his handlers in Pakistan has also been found. Most of these are information related to Army bases and movement, recruitment of Army personnel, recruitment and training for Agniveer scheme, etc. He deleted most of the information shared with the Pakistani handlers from the said mobile phones. The SSP said the mobiles had been sent for forensic investigation, after which there was a possibility of more revelations in the case. The SSP also told reporters that the accused used to take Indian SIMs of various companies, activate WhatsApp and other apps on those numbers and send them to his handlers in Pakistan through which they used to carry out their activities in India. It is worth mentioning that last week, after receiving information from the Intelligence Department, the Model Town police had arrested the accused on charges of sending secret information to Pakistan. The accused was living in Mohalla Vijay Nagar for the past four years. The police had seized the mobile and other documents of the accused. Sub-inspector Ram Singh posted at the Model Town police station had stated in his complaint that he was deployed with the police party near the railway crossing on the Phagwara Road. During this time, he was approached by police officer Omkar Singh posted in the Intelligence Department and police personnel Sunil Kumar and Manjeet Singh. They informed him that Harpreet Singh, alias Pastor Janson, who was originally from Fatehpur village of Tarn Taran district, has been living at local Mohalla Vijay Nagar for the past four years. The pastor had gone to Pakistan twice on tourist visa. Investigating officer Subash Kumar said the accused had been identified as Yakub Ali, a resident of Bal Kohna Khiva village falling under the Nakodar Sadar police station. The accused was wanted in a case of illegal mining registered in 2022 and was declared a PO in 2024. OC Observer also said the election expenditure limit for each candidate for the Lok Sabha elections had been fixed at ~95 lakh. Hoshiarpur, May 7 A person sleeping in his cattle shed outside Sahari village was murdered with sharp weapons and another was seriously injured last night. Sukhwinder Singh, alias Kaka (42), along with his worker Baba Haria, was sleeping at the cattle shed in his fields at night. Victim’s wife Kamaljeet Kaur said around 8:30 pm, her son Karanpreet Singh returned after giving breads to his father and grandfather. Around 11:30 pm, Baba Haria, who had been living with them for the past 12 years, approached her and said some persons had attacked the cattle shed and were also beating up her husband. Kamaljeet said when she reached there with her son and Baba Haria, she found her husband tied and murdered. The family members said five buffaloes and one bull were also reportedly stolen from the cattle shed. They suspect that the motive behind the murder was theft. Baba Hariya has been admitted to the Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital, where his condition is said to be stable. Mehtiana police station incharge Usha Rani and Inspector Jagjit Singh, who are investigating the case, said investigations were on and the suspects would be arrested soon. — OC Jalandhar, May 7 Days after Jalandhar Lok Sabha Congress candidate and former Chief Minister Charanjit S Channi held rallies in the Phillaur Assembly segment, Karamjeet Chaudhary, mother of the suspended Congress MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, campaigned for the BJP in the same area. Chaudhary, who had joined the BJP last month, attended rallies along with BJP candidate Sushil Rinku. She urged people to cast vote for him. Phillaur has been the turf of the Chaudhary family as prior to Vikramjit, his father and former Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary used to contest from this seat. Karamjeet Chaudhary held meetings with workers and common people in Phillaur city, Rurka Kalan, Goraya and called upon everyone to vote in favour of the BJP . Chaudhary said the Congress and AAP were sinking ships. Their support base would be completely lost in the coming times. She said there was Modi wave in the country and the BJP would defeat its opponents. Bholath Cong MLA seeks votes for Yamini Kapurthala: Taking out time from his own busy campaign schedule in Sangrur Man’s decomposed body found in bed box Tribune News Service Jalandhar, May 7 The decomposed body of a man was found from a bed box at a house in the Gadaipur area near Focal Point here this afternoon. The man, who is yet to be identified, was residing at the rented house in Gadaipur with his wife. Police investigations suggest that the body seems to be around a week old. On suspicion, the police detained the wife of the deceased. Though the police suspect foul play, they are yet to determine the motive behind his death. The police took the body into their custody and sent it for postmortem examination. As per police officials, the incident came to fore when neighbours noticed some foul smell emanating from the house. They informed the police about the incident. The police reached the spot and recovered the decomposed body from the bed box. Forensic experts collected samples and evidence from the spot. Granthi among 2 held for murder Hoshiarpur, May 7 The district police claimed to have solved the mystery behind the murder of a farmer three days ago. According to the police, the farmer was murdered by a Granthi and his accomplice due to enmity. Addressing a press conference at the Police Lines here today, district police chief Surendra Lamba said on May 5, Jodh Singh, a resident of Mewa Miyani village, was murdered in the forests adjacent to the Beas river. A team was formed under the leadership of SP (Investigations) Sarabjit Singh Bahia to investigate the matter. After a thorough probe, the police arrested the two suspects - Granthi Gurpal Singh, a resident of Mewa Miyani, and Himmat Singh, a resident of Samrae village in Gurdaspur district. The SSP said during interrogation, the suspects told the police that Jodh Singh was unmarried and lived with the family of his brother Joga Singh. He said Granthi Gurpal Singh was a frequent visitor to his brother’s family. Jodh Singh used to oppose this and there were several quarrels between them because of which Granthi Gurpal Singh started harbouring a grudge against him. When Jodh Singh was returning from the fields, the duo attacked him with a sharp weapon and killed him. Cash, grocery items stolen from shop Phagwara, May 7 Locks and shutters of two shops were found broken here this morning. In the first incident, burglars entered a general store in Model Town after breaking open the shutters and glass doors after midnight. The miscreants ransacked the shop and took away valuables, including cash worth Rs 5,000, a printer, and grocery items. They also damaged the CCTVs of the shop. Chetan and Ravi Dadara, owners of the shop, said the suspects also took away DVR and CCTVs. The police have registered a case in this regard. In another incident, miscreants tried to loot a shop near the SDM office late last night. Shop owners Rajesh and his brother Sanjay said they went to their home after locking the shop last night. When they returned this morning, they found four locks of two doors broken. The suspects failed to open the centre lock fitted in middle of the main shutter. As a PCR team was on patrol duty, it was assumed that the suspects ran away on seeing the police party. The police have been informed about the incident.
