The case was registered against the deceased’s son, Jasdeep Singh, of Baba Deep Singh Nagar, Dugri, on the complaint of Harpreet Singh, another son of the deceased and a resident of Canada. Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO, Dugri police station, said the victim was staying with his son Jasdeep Singh in Dugri. He died in March 2020. “When the victim died under mysterious circumstances, there were injury marks on his left eye. Afterwards, samples were sent for chemical examination. At that time, the police started investigation by taking action under Section 174 of the CrPC. Then the deceased’s son staying in Canada had suspected that his father had not died a natural death. Instead, he was murdered. He also sent a complaint to the Human Rights Commission for relevant action, which intervened in the matter. Both errant drivers in the mishaps were identified and separate cases were registered against them. In the first incident, the woman, identified as Sweeti Arora (33), who was going to a gym near the Sufiyan chowk, was hit by a SUV. The vehicle hit the woman so hard that she also fell onto the roadside divider. After the accident, the driver of the vehicle stopped the vehicle to see whether the woman was alive or not. But seeing the serious condition of the woman, the driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle on the road. The CCTV footage of the incident had also gone viral. The suspects have been identified as Anjali Devi, her daughter Arpita, residents of Mandi Mullanpur, Mohan Lal, the unidentified son of Mohan, Monika, Diksha and Kiran Bala. The complainant, Asha Devi, a resident of Mandi Mullanpur, said on April 27, her husband Sanjay Kumar had gone to the market to buy some household items. Her children, brother-in-law Sunil Kumar and his wife Anjali Devi and their daughter Arpita were present in the house. Later, Anjali’s uncle and his son barged into the house and they along with Anjali and her daughter Arpita started beating her up. They even thrashed her brother-in-law Sunil. Later, Anjali’s kin Monika, Diksha and Kiran also reached the place and attacked the duo. The complainant said afterwards, the suspects broke open the almirah and stole Rs 20,000 in cash, gold and silver ornaments. They even snatched her mobile phone. The entire incident got captured in CCTV cameras and she would give the footage to the police for investigation. She revealed that later, her husband reached home and took the woman and her brother-in-law to a hospital for treatment. They could not lodged a complaint on the day of assault due to the ongoing medical treatment. Addressing the crowd, Sukhbir reminisced about the era when Punjab flourished under the governance of the SAD, emphasising the need to restore that prosperity. “We have been cheated in the name of change.
