Physiotherapy in Cardio-Thoracic Conditions—as the title aptly describes is primarily intended for use by physiotherapy students, but will also come in handy for those practising physiotherapy especially in a hospital setup, pertaining to various conditions related to heart, lungs, and general circulatory disorders. The text starts with the basic anatomical and physiological considerations of the heart followed by the clinical conditions that majorly affect it. In the text that ensues, for important conditions, the medical management has been discussed as per the requirements. Following it, the detailed pharmacological aspects, patient evaluation pertaining to various cardiac conditions and their physiotherapeutic management has been detailed. A similar pattern has been followed in the Respiratory system unit. In it, again starting with the basic anatomy and physiology, some common pulmonary conditions, their assessment, appropriate patient evaluation and then their medical and physiotherapeutic management have been discussed. Separate texts on various drugs used in major respiratory conditions and on the several physiotherapy skills and techniques used in the total rehabilitation of a respiratory patient helps not only in an easy understanding of the text but also is important for an easy recall. The portions on anatomy and physiology might appear like a routine but they go a long way when we are in a hurry and do not have enough time to go through the detailed referential texts. It was so found customary to include it in this book as well. Owing to a large number of cases of Cardiac and Respiratory arrests in the present day scenario, separate chapters have been included for a quick go through and from a basic to advanced guide on how to set off with the treatment of such conditions. In the last part of the book, a concise, yet wholesome inclusion of the chapter on various circulatory disorders was like a mandate without which the book would have incomplete. The elaborate coverage of various topics is expected to commensurate with the requirements of the curriculum as set in by most of the reputed universities of India. The writing style is expected to conform to the study pattern of dedicated student and hopes to enlighten and expose its readers with the intricacies of thoracic region inclusive of most of the cardiothoracic conditions–anatomically, physiologically and therapeutically. Also it has a very useful basis to many aspects of physiotherapeutic correlation. In specific areas, the text has been supported with illustrations and easy to understand and reproduce diagrams which will further help the reader for an easy recollection of the text. A single book cannot encompass and throw a complete light on the magnitude of the information yet the care and thought invested in writing this book will assuredly hone not only physiotherapeutic skills and ability but also enhance a clear understanding of the related cardio-thoracic conditions. Suggestions regarding improvement of the book are always welcome.
