I was so excited to hear about Barack Obama’s historic win as the first African-American President of the United States. He has proven that with the right determination and attitude, caste, creed or colour are no longer insurmountable obstacles to achieving your dreams. Obama’s campaign, along with his charisma, will and energy, helped him win the election by a landslide. We hope to see President Obama bring his country out of its deep financial crisis, and achieve the success he deserves.
It’s a pleasure to present my mother-in-law Bilkees Latif’s column on Hyderabad heritage. Mrs. Latif is a noted writer and a social worker who has a vast knowledge of our city’s culture and history. This week, she takes us through a culinary tour of Hyderabad, revealing the evolution of certain local dishes. The past week saw the opening of the United States consulate as well as the Russian honorary consulate in Hyderabad. It was wonderful to see Peter T. Hassan, advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government, announced the honorary consul of the Russian consulate. The party saw Hassan’s entire family come forward in support, including his cute grandson who went on stage and congratulated his grandfather in his own special way.
