Dear Readers,
It’s easy to get disturbed about the state of the world for women. For all the progress that women have made over the years, sexism can still be found in all parts of society. Men still out-earn women in every industry; violence against women remains an unresolved issue and is given lower priority; and repugnant misogynistic behaviour is still normalised. But there are bright spots to be found.
This year, everywhere we turn, we are presented with the undeniable power of women who inspire us every day. On the cover is Nirmala Sitharaman, India’s second female Defence Minister, who has proved that women are on par with men when it comes to running the government. Our Feature Story looks at women like the Indian badminton darling P.V Sindhu, who broke the glass ceiling by winning medals, including the World Tour title in 2018 and an Olympic silver in 2016.
We also have an interesting interview with Seema Kumar about branding, as well as about marketing. As Chief Marketing Officer of Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology, and as Director Admissions and Administration of Sreenidhi International School, Seema is instrumental in establishing the brand both nationally and internationally. Find out what she had to say in our People in Focus. A senior director in an MNC, a passionate traveller, and an avid marathoner, Kiranveer recently took a trip to Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In this week’s Grand Getaways, he shares his account of running a 30-kilometre marathon race at the Tuffman BSNL Ultra Marathon.
Body shaming or judging physical appearance on how good or bad it is has become something of a social tradition, especially among women. This not only perpetuates the purpose that people should be judged for their physical features, it also implies that the way
people look is more important than what they do. Mind & Body talks about ways to love your body and that everybody's shapes, sizes, and shades are beautiful.
