According to officials, the major proposals include the development of a concertcum-exhibition centre on 25 acres in Sarangpur and a fully digital museum at the Le Corbusier Centre in Sector 19. The UT Tourism Secretary, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, had recently visited the Sarangpur site to review preparations for developing the ground as a venue for major events after several large concerts and public events were shifted to neighbouring cities of Panchkula and Mohali. As a temporary arrangement, the UT Tourism Department has decided to organise gatherings of over 5,000 people at Sarangpur until the proposed concertcum-exhibition centre comes up on 25 acres in the area. The Administration intended to develop the Sarangpur site on the lines of the Sector 34 exhibition ground, which traditionally hosted exhibitions and large events in the through lake, green spaces and other activities such as trekking, boating and cycling Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme ■ Sarangpur site to be IMMENSE POTENTIAL developed on the lines of Sector 34 exhibition ground ■ According to a report prepared ■ Other focus areas of the Admin- istration will be eco-tourism city. Once developed, the Sarangpur site will be the venue for exhibitions, concerts and other major public events that require large open spaces. Sarangpur offered a large open area and suited for big events, which otherwise led to traffic congestion and parking issues in the city. At present, major events in the city are usually organised at the Sector 34 exhibition ground. However, due to frequent traffic congestion during major programmes, the Administration has been restricting permissions for very large gatherings there. Under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme of the Central Government, the UT Tourism Department has envisioned various projects aimed at enhancing the city’s tourism, cultural and by a consultant, the city holds immense potential for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) tourism recreational infrastructure. The other focus areas of the Administration would be ecotourism through lake, green spaces and other activities such as trekking, boating and cycling and cultural tourism through festivals, exhibitions and performances. According to an inception report prepared by a consultant hired by the Union Ministry of Tourism, the city holds immense potential for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) tourism. The strategic location, excellent infrastructure and cosmopolitan atmosphere position the city as an attractive destination for hosting corporate events and large-scale conferences. The report highlights the city’s excellent accessibility, strong infrastructure and diverse cultural attraction, which make it an ideal destination for the MICE tourism. With its renowned architecture, cultural heritage and wide range of accommodation options, the city offers a unique experience for business travellers. Its pleasant climate and safe environment further enhance its appeal as a premier MICE destination. Expanding meeting facilities and building a strong MICE brand presence could significantly boost its tourism profile. The Ministry of Tourism recently held a meeting with officials from all states and union territories and directed them to develop a permanent policy and standard operating procedure for live performances. According to the ministry’s report, the tourism industry in Chandigarh alone directly employs 36,000 people. Chandigarh, June 7 The Chandigarh Administration has taken a major step under the Central Government’s de-regulation initiative and created a land bank of approximately 60 acres. With the amendments to the Master Plan 2031, many major projects may receive the green light in the future. The creation of this land bank will significantly reduce the complex legal process of diverting forest land that often hinders these projects. Following the recommendations of a high-level committee, the administration has approved this proposal. The land has been identified in the forest adjacent to Patiala Ki Rao and in the lower belt of the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary. The rules of land bank have been kept very clear and strict. Before entering the Test format, Shah had scored 970 runs in 11 matches at an average of 46.19 with three tons and five half-centuries to his name. He is the highest run-scorer for his country in the red-ball cricket. His best performance was against Sri Lanka, where he posted 145 runs, including two half centuries. At the draw of stumps, Shah posted an unbeaten 43 off 81 balls, with six boundaries and one six, and remained the highest scorer, so far, as the side posted 113/5. Meanwhile, the Mullanpur stadium witnessed another historical moment for Afghanistan as its pacer Safi claimed his career’s first ever fifer. After claiming debutant Manav Suthar, which marked the completion of his maiden five-wicket haul, the 23-year-old lanky pacer kissed the ground and prayed to God. He ended up taking one more wicket, his best ever figure in the two Tests he has played. Born in Baghlan, north Afghanistan, he was once asked to leave cricket, but rose up to become one of the most important bowler of the Afghanistan team across all formats. He was spotted by former Pakistan pacer and coach Rana Naved-ulHasan at Afghanistan’s high-performance centre in Kabul, where his pace and ability to move the ball attracted attention. “Afghanistan players put up a good fight, and Safin did really well on a pitch which turned slow and was helping spinners. It was really amazing to watch him playing here in Mullanpur,” said Akash, an avid spectator. “The firstever Test here will be an event to remember for these two players. Rahmat (Shah) is the top scorer for Afghanistan in the Test cricket, and has now become the first to complete 1,000 runs. Safi proved why he was picked for the 2022 T20 World Cup by former skipper Rashid Khan. He bowled brilliantly and was a treat to watch on both days. He didn’t only trouble the top order, but also restricted the middle order,” said Prithvi, a young fan. On Day 2, the stands witnessed a better turnout than the opening day. As per the Punjab Cricket Association, around 10,000 tickets were sold. The PCA honorary secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer rang the traditional bell to kick-start the second day’s play. In a heartwarming gesture off the field, Hayer also felicitated Khyal Muhammad, the lone Afghan cricket fan at the venue. c m y b Land falls in forest near Patiala Ki Rao, lower belt of Sukhna sanctuary est land allotted for the project, it will be mandatory to do high-density plantation on double the land in this fixed land bank.
