Investigating Officer (IO) Tirath Ram said the accused had been identified as Davindar Singh, alias Geba, son of Kewal, a resident of Jaffar Wal village, and Prem Lal, alias Prem, son of Jogindar, a resident of Pato Khurd village. Hardeep Singh Chandi, a resident of Jaffarwal village, had complained to the police that the accused had disrupted work of government pond in his village and also assaulted and threatened him. Woman among 5 held under NDPS Act Our Correspondent Phagwara, June 11 In a series of anti-drug operations, the police in Jalandhar Rural district arrested five alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, and seized heroin, poppy husk and intoxicant tablets from them. In the first case, the Lohian Khas police arrested two persons after seizing 5.18 gm of heroin from them. Station House Officer Sukhjinder Singh said the accused were identified as Kulwindar Masih, alias Manna, son of Balwindar Masih, and Manpreet Singh, alias Mani, son of Jaswant Singh, residents of Aadian village under the Dorangla police station in Gurdaspur district. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them. In another operation, the Nakodar Sadar police arrested an alleged woman drug peddler, Gona, wife of Dalwara Ram, a resident of Thabalke village, with a seizure of 3 kg of poppy husk from her. In a separate action, the Nakodar City police arrested Inderjit Singh, son of Surjit Singh, a resident of Sunder Nagar, Nakodar, with 28 intoxicant tablets. Similarly, the Nurmahal police arrested Manjinder Aujla, alias Mani, son of Charanji Lal, resident of Bhangala village, with 51 intoxicant tablets. Jalandhar, June 11 A woman doctor reportedly died under mysterious circumstances at her house in Kewal Vihar here on Wednesday, with her father levelling allegations against her husband of having an extramarital affair, indulging in domestic violence and taking unauthorised loan of Rs 2.5 crore in her name. The victim Dr Meenakshi Sood was posted as a PCMS doctor in the Civil Hospital Kapurthala and was married to Dr Piyush Sood, an eye surgeon and owner of National Eye Care Hospital here. The couple married in 2018, but had separated last year. Dr Meenakshi was found lying on the floor of her house after the police broke open windows of the house to enter her room. She had not been responding to the doorbell or phone calls of her maid, who had come to feed her SIR-2026: Training workshop held for officials Tribune News Service Nawanshahr, June 11 In preparation for the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls in Punjab, a two-day training workshop was organised at the District Administrative Complex under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjeev Sharma. The workshop was conducted by district-level master trainers to teach assembly constituency-level master trainers. Addressing the participants, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Sanjeev Sharma stated that the training focused on the Special Intensive Revision process of electoral rolls and the proper method of filling enumeration forms. District master trainers provided detailed guidance regarding the information to be recorded in the forms, the required supporting documents and the online uploading process. He emphasised that the primary objective of SIR-2026 was to ensure that the electoral rolls were 100 per cent accurate, updated and errorfree. He further said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would conduct a door-to-door verification and enumeration drive in their respective polling booth areas from June 25 to July 24. Sharma instructed all BLOs to carry out the exercise with complete dedication, transparency and impartiality. He stressed that no eligible voter should be left out of the electoral rolls and that all information collected during the revision process must be recorded accurately. Diamond-studded gold jewellery, cash worth Rs 20,000 and some Canadian dollars were allegedly stolen from her place. Sources said the finger of suspicion was being pointed towards a woman Home Guard deployed with the SP . An FIR was lodged in this regard, said DSP Palwinder Singh. SP’s mother Santosh Kumari alleged that a woman Home Guard had been deployed at their place for security purpose who used to remain in the house from 9 am to 5 pm. She said since the Home Guard was serving at their place for long, they had always trusted her. She said when she checked her bags, she found Rs 20,000, four gold chains, three rings, a set of earrings, two diamond pendents and 200 Canadian dollars missing. Kapurthala, June 11 Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal on Thursday held a review meeting with officials of the Mining Department to strengthen measures against illegal mining in the district and ensure transparency in mining operations. Chairing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated the district administration’s commitment to completely curb illegal mining, protect natural resources and maintain strict compliance with mining regulations. He made it clear that illegal mining would not be tolerated under any circumstances and that a zero-tolerance policy would be followed in dealing with violations. He directed officials to ensure that all approved mining sites strictly follow the prescribed rules and stan- dards. He added that licenses of contractors found violating regulations should be cancelled immediately. The Deputy Commissioner informed that joint teams comprising officials from the Mining Department, Police Department and Revenue Department have already been constituted to keep a close watch on illegal mining activities across the district. These teams are carrying out regular field inspections and enforcement drives. Appealing to the public, Bansal urged citizens to support the district administration in its campaign against illegal mining. He asked residents to immediately report any illegal mining activity in their area to the District Administration Control Room at 01822-233777 or to the concerned authorities. He assured that the identity of informants would be kept completely confidential. Officials of the Mining Department, including the Executive Engineer and Sub-Divisional Officer, were present during the meeting.
