According to information Balihar Singh had parked his motorcycle before entering the hospital to visit a patient. When he came out, he found the vehicle missing. OC THREE BOOKED FOR ~13L FRAUD Phagwara: The Nakodar police have registered case of fraud against three persons for allegedly defrauding Satin Creditcare Network Limited of approximately Rs 13 lakh by tampering with customers’ Aadhaar and voter identity cards. According to the police report, the accused have been identified as Mandeep Singh, a manager at the company’s Nakodar branch, and its employees Amritpal Singh and Harpinder Singh. A case was registered following an inquiry into complaints. OC MAN, WIFE HELD WITH 85 TABLETS Phagwara: The Goraya police have arrested Amandeep Kumar, alias Rinku, and his wife Meena Rani, residents of Lagaria locality, after allegedly recovering 85 intoxicating tablets from them. The police report states that 45 tablets were recovered from Amandeep Kumar and 40 from Meena Rani during a search operation. A case has been registered against accused. OC ONE HELD WITH 700 GM OPIUM Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested Gurbej Singh, alias Bheja, a resident of Angakiri village, after allegedly recovering 700 grams of opium and a Hero HF Deluxe motorcycle (bearing registration number PB08-DV-7637) from his possession. A case has been registered under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act against the accused. OC Police targeted in drive-by shooting, two arrested Our Correspondent Phagwara, September 20 A man allegedly opened fire at the police personnel during a midnight checkpoint operation at Jalandhar Chowk in Zandiala Manjki village after a Scorpio SUV was stopped for routine document verification. The police claimed that the accused pulled out a pistol and attempted to shoot the police post in-charge before being overpowered. According to Jandiala police post in-charge Narinder Mohan, a naka had been set up at Jalandhar Chowk when a black Scorpio (PB-08-GB1101), coming from the Phagwara side, was stopped around midnight. As the occupants were asked to produce their driving licence and identification documents, the man seated beside the driver Bullet marks on the wall of a shop at Jalandhar Chowk in Zandiala Manjki village in Jalandhar district. allegedly pulled out a pistol. Mohan said that when he asked the accused to show his identification, the latter allegedly pointed the weapon at him and attempted to fire with the intention of killing him. The bullets, however, struck the wall of a nearby shop and did not injure any police personnel. With the help of other police personnel, the alleged attacker was overpowered and the pistol seized. The accused was identified as Manpreet Singh, alias Mani Shoker, a resident of Atti village under the Phillaur police station area. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Dilpreet Singh, a resident of Dharam Singh Wala village in Fatehgarh Sahib district. When questioned about the licence for the recovered weapon, neither of the two men could produce any valid arms licence, the police said. During examination of the foreign-made pistol, the police recovered three live cartridges from the magazine and found two spent shells. A case has been registered against both accused at the Jalandhar Sadar police station under relevant provisions of law. Further investigation is underway. Subhanpur SHO injured in attack by drunk hooligans Aparna Banerji Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 20 Subhanpur Station House Officer (SHO) Amandeep Singh Nahar was seriously injured after being attacked by a group of alleged hooligans whom he had tried to stop from creating a disturbance at a bus stand near the police station. The officer sustained a head injury and required six to seven stitches, the police said. The Kapurthala police have arrested two accused, identified as Karandeep Singh, a resident of Dadwindi village in Sultanpur Lodhi, and Arya, a resident of Khassan village in Bholath. A manhunt is underway to nab the remaining accused. The incident occurred on September 13. The accused have been booked under Section 109 and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Two accused arrested; hunt on for others Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The SHO, who underwent treatment for a few days, has since recovered and resumed duty. According to the police, SHO Nahar noticed a group of men consuming liquor and creating a ruckus at a bus stand opposite the Subhanpur police station. The men had placed liquor bottles on a vehicle and were allegedly indulging in drunken misconduct at the public spot frequented by bus passengers. When the SHO approached the group and asked them to stop creating a nuisance, the men allegedly turned violent and attacked him. The police said one of the accused struck the SHO on the head with a ‘kara’ (steel bracelet), leaving him seriously 22-yr-old youth injured in Punjab leaders pay tributes to Bhagat Chunni Lal firing over money dispute Tribune News Service Jalandhar, September 20 A 22-year-old youth was injured in gunfire following a dispute over a financial transaction at Hamira village in Kapurthala’s Subhanpur area after five people allegedly forcibly entered his house. The injured man, identified as Bikki Singh, a resident of Hamira village, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar. The Subhanpur police have booked five persons and launched a search to trace them. In his statement to the police, Bikki’s brother, Saab Singh, alleged that around 10.30 pm on September 18, he and Bikki were standing outside their house when five men arrived and demanded repayment of money that was lent to them. The accused have been identified as Lovepreet Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Surjit Singh, alias Tota, and Vicky. According to Saab Singh’s statement, Gurvinder Singh had lent Rs 2 lakh to the family around four months ago. An argument allegedly broke out when the accused demanded repayment. When the brothers told them that the money was not available at the time, the argument allegedly turned into a physical altercation. Saab Singh alleged that Lovepreet Singh and Surjit Singh, alias Tota, then pulled out pistols, while Gurvinder Singh, Parvinder Singh and Vicky brandished datars (large curved knives). Lovepreet Singh allegedly fired at Bikki, hitting him in the abdomen. Subsequently, Surjit Singh allegedly fired another shot, which hit the glass of a window grille of the house. Saab Singh said he fled into a room inside the house out of fear. Meanwhile, the accused allegedly entered the house and vandalised the window glass and other belongings with datars. Those allegedly armed with pistols also fired shots into the air inside the house. The accused fled after villagers gathered at the spot. Bikki was initially taken to a hospital in Dayalpur. After receiving first aid, he was referred to a hospital in Jalandhar. According to the police, Bikki was not in a condition to give a statement, and a doctor declared him “unfit for statement”. His brother Saab Singh’s statement was subsequently recorded. The Subhanpur police have registered a case against Lovepreet Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Surjit Singh and Vicky under Sections 109(1), 333, 191(3), 190 and 324(4) of the BNS, along with Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. — TNS Jalandhar, September 20 A host of senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Mann, wife of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, and Punjab AAP president and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, attended the antim ardas ceremony of former Cabinet Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal in Jalandhar on Sunday. A shradhanjali sabha (memorial meeting) was organised at a sprawling venue in Basti Peerdad to pay final tributes to the veteran political leader and father of AAP Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat. Bhagat Chunni Lal passed away on September 11 after a prolonged illness. He was 94. The men appeared to be intoxicated, and the possibility of narcotics consumption cannot be ruled out. Two accused have been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the others.” Commenting on the broader issue, SSP Toora said, “Enforcement is only one aspect. We also need to understand why people indulge in such acts. Phagwara, September 20 In a stroke of luck, Madhu, a migrant farm labourer living in the Banga area, has won the Rs 3-crore bumper prize in the Sikkim Dear Ganesh Chaturthi Bumper Lottery. Madhu, originally from West Bengal, came to the Banga area in search of work and had been earning his livelihood as an agricultural labourer. His fortunes changed dramatically when he purchased a lottery ticket from the Sahota Lottery Stall in Banga barely an hour before the results were announced. Just an hour after buying the ticket, Madhu learnt that he had won the bumper prize of Rs 3 crore. The unexpected windfall sparked celebrations among his family members and acquaintances. Our Correspondent Phagwara, September 20 The Nakodar police have claimed to have cracked a robbery case within days, stating that their investigation revealed that the complainant had allegedly staged the incident to misappropriate company funds. The accused, identified as Arvinder Singh, a resident of Chuhar village under the Nakodar Sadar police station, has been arrested. The police said Rs 2 lakh in cash had been recovered from his possession, while efforts were underway to trace the remaining amount. Addressing mediapersons, Nakodar DSP Onkar Singh Brar said the police received information on September 16 regarding the alleged robbery of Rs 3,16,599 from Arvinder Singh, an employee of CMS Info Systems Pvt Ltd, Urban Estate, Phase I, Jalandhar. According to the police, Arvinder had alleged that unidentified persons intercepted him near the Jamiatgarh Khosse village adda and robbed him of the cash. Acting on his complaint, the police registered an FIR on September 17 under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Nakodar Sadar police station and launched an investigation. DSP Brar said investigators examined various aspects of the alleged robbery using technical evidence and other investigative methods. The probe allegedly found that the robbery claim was fabricated and that Arvinder, who had initially presented himself as the victim, had staged the incident. The police claimed that Arvinder had taken a loan to meet domestic expenses and allegedly devised a plan to repay it by misappropriating money belonging to his employer. He allegedly sought to portray the company funds as having been looted and subsequently provided false information to the police. During interrogation, Arvinder allegedly disclosed details of the plan, the police said. Based on the findings of the investigation, he was arrested.
