REUTERS New Delhi, October 1 The UAE has ordered a highlevel investigation into the cockpit attack aboard a flydubai flight that left Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar seriously injured, directing prosecutors to examine whether the incident had any connection to terrorist activity, intent or prior planning. The probe was ordered by UAE Attorney-General Dr Hamad Al Shamsi, who constituted a specialised prosecution team to investigate the circumstances and causes of the incident aboard flydubai flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday. The UAE has clarified that it has not classified the episode as a terrorist attack but will examine any possible motive to hijack the place, links to terrorist activity and whether the act was planned or directed. The incident unfolded mid-air when, according to Israeli authorities, the co-pilot allegedly stabbed Captain Machchhar and attempted to crash the aircraft. Flydubai flight FZ1073, carrying 174 persons from Dubai to Tel Aviv, was cruising at about 34,000 feet when the copilot allegedly attacked Cap- tain Smit Machchhar, stabbing the Indian pilot and sending the aircraft into a dive. Flight-tracking data showed the Boeing 737 losing more than 16,000 feet in about 35 seconds, with its speed surging towards 700 mph. Seriously wounded and bleeding, Machchhar managed to unlock the cockpit door.
