This is a delightful collection of essays of wry wit and irreverence, as also percipient commentaries on subjects ranging from banking, public life and current events to dysfunctional domesticity, personal foibles and growing old. The author, a former policeman, has included a medley of reminiscences and anecdotes, narrated with candour and a twinkle in the eye. This slim volume contains an eclectic mix of opinions, satire and sarcasm, peppered with self-deprecatory humour. Interspersed are pieces written during the lockdown enforced due to the Wuhan virus. These provide a somewhat different dimension to Lockdown Literature, and show that humour is as good an antidote as any other for lockdown blues. Strewn within these pages are some pearls of wisdom and many nuggets of sound commonsense.
